Ferrocerium Rod, Pen, Toothpick or Carbide Scribe tool for Leatherman Wave Alpha and Charge
This listing is for one rod type of your choosing. You will receive one holder and your choice of insert. Due to different diameters of the inserts, I do not recommend swapping different inserts in the same holder, as the holder may conform to fit the thicker insert, causing the others to be loose.
Please note: This part fits best under the saw. On Charge Models the hidden lanyard ring will need to be extended or removed for the rod holder to fit. If you want to install two rod holder (i.e.- one pen and one ferro rod), a second rod holder may be installed under the file with some limitations. First, the file will be raised slightly as shown in the photos. The ball detent that keeps the file closed still functions as intended. Second, a pocket clip cannot be installed at the same time, as the two components occupy the same space.
The space in the fame is extremely limited, so the holder is quite thin. It is made from a very durable, flexible material. It will not break, but users will notice it is bendy due to the small features.
It is a snug fit in the frame due to the limited space, but there is also a strong magnet embedded in the holder to prevent any potential movement should your tool have more room or be modified. It will not move around or fall out when the file or saw are in use.
To remove it, simply lift the part visible from the outside and it will lift the file or saw out of the way as it comes out. There is no need to open the file or saw all the way. There is a fingernail nick on both sides, as well as a hook shape that you can get a finger nail under.
Installation can be a little more tricky, but easy once you get the hang of it. Close the saw or file most of the way and hook the rod and holder underneath it. Then simply close the saw/file the rest of the way as demonstrated in the video.
The ferro rod is coated with a black paint to prevent corrosion. You will need to scrape through the paint layer before it will spark. It is recommended to use the spine of the saw or the awl to scrape the ferro rod.
These pieces are designed and 3D printed by myself.
