Leatherman Scalpel Blade Holder - V3 for Wave, Surge, Charge, Signal and Curl

$40.00

This part is designed to replace either the can opener or the large flat screwdriver in the Leatherman Wave, Charge, and Signal, and I have a separate design for the Surge which can replace either the can opener or the small flat driver. It may fit other tools which use the same can openers, but I can’t verify any others. The large flat screwdriver (small screwdriver on the Surge) is 0.5mm thicker than the can opener and the scalpel holder, so extra shims will be necessary if you use it to replace that tool, and I include an assortment of shims to fine tune your fit.

It uses replaceable No 11 surgical scalpel blades, which run about $10 for 100 on Amazon. No 10 blades will also fit, but the blade will likely contact the frame, leaving a small dull nick in one spot. I include five No 11 blades with the package to get you started - international orders may not come with blades due to potential customs issues. It can hold any scalpel blade which fits a No 3 handle, but other shapes may interfere with the tool when closed. No 11 is probably the most accessible of this size blade. It is my blade of choice, and it fits neatly in the tool when closed without conflict with the pliers or frame. These are designed to be an ideal fit with P&P brand blades. Other brands may fit fine and I test the fit with several brands, but since each manufacturer makes them differently, I suggest sticking with P&P brand if they are available to you. If you have to use a different brand blade, and it does not fit properly, feel free to reach out to me for solutions as I have a lot of experience with getting blades to fit at this point.

These are 3d printed in 316L Stainless Steel. After printing I fine tune the fit of the blade, pivot, and lock by hand on each piece. They are sand blasted then lightly tumbled in a ceramic abrasive medium to be a close match to the surface finish of the Leatherman bit driver.

After installation, check for proper fit and clearance with the frame and other tools, and bend gently one way or another if it hangs up on things on either side. I do my best to check for everything, but some minor tweaking may be necessary after installation.

SURGE - IMPORTANT - You will need to bend the tab inside the frame of the surge slightly away from the frame to provide clearance for the blade.

If you have never taken apart your Leatherman before, this particular pivot is by far the easiest one. Check out my youtube video for the installation process.

It should go without saying, but surgical scalpels are extremely sharp. Your use of this attachment is at your own risk.
